Children and Youth Services
MWQG has been making quilts for CYS since 1984. When a child is in need, when they are in a strange place with strange people, they are given a choice of quilts to comfort them through a difficult transition. Join is every 1st Tuesday of the month to make quilts for this worth cause.
Being hospitalized is a frightening experience for children. Each year MWQG particpates in a great pillowcase race hosted by Quilters Corner. After receiving thousands of pillowcases from sewers all around the area, they are then sent to Ryan's Case for Smiles, who in turn distribute the colorful pillowcases to children's hospitals across the country.
Every summer, the members of MWQG converge for a special project, making and filling Christmas stockings for soldiers overseas. When they are away from their families and lacking in the most basic of necessities, we hop these stockings can bring a bit of cheer.
In July of 2016 the members of MWQG decided to go where we'd never gone before. We would make 22 XLTwin sized quilts for the beds of The City Mission Veteran's Center of set to open in the summer of 2018. We've worked hard to cover the beds of this new facility. See the project below!
Just a few of our other outreach efforts.....
Susan G. Komen Foundation
Each year, in cities around the country, millions of people gather to run Susan G. Komen's Race for the Cure. Participant have to opportunity to "sign" or decorate squares fabric in honor of their loved ones, their survival stories and their prayers to find a cure. These squares are then sent to guilds across the country to be made into quilts. Quilts are then raffled or auctioned and proceed benefit the foundation.
Little Dresses for Haiti
Such a simple project and have the greatest impact! Little Dresses for Haiti are made to cloth the poor and orphaned girls in third world countries.
Bed Sized Quilts for Charitable Houses
Since 2012 our guild has ferociously worked to provide over two dozen bed-sized quilts to the City Mission's Patriot House, the UPMC Family Houses and the EEC Shelter. The quilts now provide warmth and personality when its needed most.
Quilters Stitch Together!
Stitching Hope For Moore Oklahoma
Stitching Faith For Houston, Texas
In May of 2013, several deadly tornadoes ripped through Moore, Oklahoma. While most guilds gathered quilts for the newly homeless victims to use, we decided our efforts would be most useful in the form of a monetary donation to Central Oklahoma's Habitat for Humanity. Through a T-shirt campaign on Booster.com we were able to raise $2750!
